I have been trying to use the App but consistently have `No Connection` (and therefore no data etc.).
I have definitely set the correct IP address. When I try to connect to that IP address via a browser I get a basic http auth pop up box asking for my user name and password, and entering my details take me to the dongle admin page. And I have configured the IP to be static.
The inverter shows as online in the givenergy web-portal and i'm getting data there and on the givenergy app, so it is definitely online.
EDIT
The app suddenly started working after about a day, and has been receiving data consistently for a few hours now. So if anyone else is having a similar problem - try waiting for 24 hours.
Unable to connect to inverter (No Connection)
Re: Unable to connect to inverter (No Connection)
Glad that you managed to fix it.
Still rather odd, the app should connect and show data within a few seconds of entering the IP address.
Post again if you have any further problems.

Re: Unable to connect to inverter (No Connection)
The app has now totally stopped working.
Over the last few weeks the routine has been.
1. Restart the dongle by going to ip address 192.168.1.xx in a browser.
2. After the dongle restarts, the app quickly finds the inverter and starts reading data every ten seconds.
3. After a few hours or days the app switches to only receiving data every ~5 minutes.
4. After a few more hours or days it stops receiving data at all or gets one update every few hours.
5. Goto step 1.
Now this has stopped working, restarting the dongle doesn't enable the app the reconnect to the inverter, it is stuck at 'No Connection'.
Other info that might be helpful -
I can see live inverter data on the web portal (although this is only updated every five minutes as far as i can tell).
The app can't find the ip address of the inverter, I have to enter it manually and I am definitely entering the correct ip from the router.
Phone: Galaxy A10, Android version 11. The app was downloaded from the Aurora store rather than the google store.
Inverter Model GIV-HY-5.0-G3
Inverter Software D0.318-A0.318
Dongle Firmware version 403
The new (as of 26/05/2026) GivEnergy app cannot find the inverter either, so there a chance that there is something misconfigured on my inverter/dongle from the installation.

Re: Unable to connect to inverter (No Connection)
Sounds a bit like your poor dongle is getting overloaded.
The dongle listener on port 8899 only supports a limited number of simultaneous connections (32 I think). The connection to the portal always gets priority. Is there anything else (such as a rogue GivTCP) that could be connecting to the dongle?
Is it a WiFi or Ethernet connection to the inverter? How busy is your network (about how many devices)?
Search the play store for an app called pingtools. It's free and can give you some insight into your network without being too complicated.

Re: Unable to connect to inverter (No Connection)
I've found that my Inverter (8Kw Gen3) only supports one local device at a time. I've been experimenting with the latest not greatest official GE app in local mode, but I can only connect that when I put RubikCube's app offline. And vice versa.
Re: Unable to connect to inverter (No Connection)
Thanks this was very helpful
When the inverter was installed, the engineer also set up a GridX box connected to my router. I checked with pingtools and it was constantly talking to the inverter.
It may have been misconfigured during installation, or the recent changes to the official GivEnergy software might have broken the integration somehow. Or this is it working correctly.
I don't understand what the GridX box is supposed to do and can't find any information about how to reconfigure it or how to integrate with GivEnergy's stuff. I'm sure it was explained by the installer when the system was set up, but I can't remember what I was told.
Anyway I turned it off and disconnected it. After that the app started working perfectly, it has been going for 24 hours now and hasn't missed a single read, so the problem might by fixed.
tl;dr If the app is having trouble staying connected and you have GridX box, try turning it off.

I'm new to the app - installed last night and it worked well at home.
Is the app supposed to work when away from home ie off my home WiFi network? Are there extra settings to set that up?
TIA.
