How to 'pause' the battery and inverter for charge/discharge?

Post by markwh »

I have been having a problem charging my EV, since the inverter, when not set to "pause charge and and discharge" sends out some kind on powerline interference to the car which continually stops and starts the charging. Setting pause via the givenergy app or portal makes EV charging work just fine to sort the problem (as does turning off the battery)

i am using inverter firmware version D0.214-A0.214 on GIV-AC3.0 inverter

However, if i set a schedule to set set zero rates for maximum charge and discharge via the app, but it does not seem to work the same as 'pause' since the EV interruption still occurs?

How can i use the settings on the monitor app to simulate the pause setting on the givenergy portal/app?

Set Pause Mode and Pause Period in the Global Settings. My guess would be mode 3 to pause charge and discharge.

for my ignorance of the inverter monitor app, but i don't see any "Global Settings" items in the app, only the 8 other settings between "number of inverters" to "grid count"

in inverter monitor, and under the status settings for the battery, i see that like you say pause mode=3, when the inverter is set to no discharge or charge in the givenergy app, so i would assume 0= no pause, 1=pause charge, 2=pause discharge, and 3= pause charge+discharge.

but the pause mode is not changeable in the version 4.4 software?

I don't think the AC3 has a "proper" pause mode.

Pause the inverter using the GivEnergy app. Then look at the controls settings with the Inverter Monitor app to see how the GivEnergy app has set them.

I am somewhat concerned that your AC3 is interfering with your EV charger. Could it be interfering with all your neighbours EV chargers too? They would be very confused!

That is what i did setting the pause mode via the portal (or givenergy app), the pause status flag appears in the battery status area in the inverter monitor app, the value (none, 1, 2 or 3) appearing is, as i said in prior message.

The ac3 inverter is causing some distortion of the 50 hz powerline signal, which is not there when the inverter is in pause mode (or off). There are no neighbours with EV chargers. A resolution is hopefully coming with an installer fitting a powerline filter to either the EV charger or inverter, givenergy (before they went down) refused to do anything about it.

Since Givenergy fitted a reconditioned inverter on 11th of dec 2025 (when the interference problem appeared), it possible there are some 'new' components in the ac3 inverter, which are not normally there, hence the pause mode. Alternatively its running the newest firmware D0.214-A0.214, which is why it has the pause setting, which for sure was not there before the recon. was fitted.

I have just added this page to the website.

https://givenergymonitor.co.uk/controls.html

Does your inverter have the Pause Mode control? The Adjust Pause Mode dialog isn't the greatest, but what is the problem with changing the pause mode?

It sounds like whoever "reconditioned" your inverter may have used some incorrect parts. Maybe they put a circuit board for a gen3 hybrid into an ac3 or something. Don't know if that is possible, but a lot of experienced staff left in 2025, and some new people were taken on around September.

The inverter app on my tablet has the controls like the "older systems" (no pause mode in the global settings) but through the givenergy app and the portal it has the added functionality of the pause mode and the multiple periods for charging- like the newer models. Both of these were not on my the GE-app/portal prior to the recon. and firmware upgrade.

The reconditioned inverter was installed by GE, and has the case of a 2023 ac3. The issue was, when the portal went down the other day (for some of us), i could not charge the EV, since i could not pause the battery, i had to switch it off to do that.

You may be correct about the 'odd parts', maybe thats why it has the EV-interference problem , since i have not seen anybody else report this problem. The nearest similar issue was an apparent problem with a solar inverter causing the same EV symptoms with a myenergi Zappi.

From the main screen, if you tap the inverter line (with the orange blob at the left), you should see a screen like this.

This is for an all-in-one. What does your inverter identify as (on the top line)? Does it show as having extra controls? Is there anything different or extra showing?
